Determining your face shape is a simple equation of proportions. Research has shown that the most common face shape is Oval, others include; Round, Square, Heart, Diamond, Oblong, and Triangle/Pear face shape.

To know your face shape, pull your hair back into a ponytail, and analyze your face dimension based on the reflection of what you see in the mirror. These features best describe either of the six categories your face falls into.

Oval: Forehead may be slightly wider than the chin, and the length of the face is about one and a half times the width.

Round: Prominent, rounded cheeks with equal width and length of the face.

Square: Prominent jaw and square chin, with forehead and jawline roughly the same width.

Oblong: Often confused for the oval face, though an oblong face will have a longer shape that is not as wide as oval — often with a narrow chin.

Heart: Wider forehead, face gently tapes down to the chin/cheekbones with a narrow jawline and chin.

Diamond: Narrow forehead and jawline with cheekbones at the widest point of the face.

Triangle/Pear: Forehead and cheekbones are narrow with a wide jawline

Now, that we have successfully identified our face shape. Taking cues from Youbeauty and Glamour magazine, we move onto the perfect hairstyle that best suit each face.

Hairstyles for an Oval Face

Ladies with oval face can pull off any hair style: because of the shape of their face they actually have a great range of options.
According to award-winning hairdresser, Lee Stafford “A wavy lob is a great style for oval face shapes and they are so on trend right now. Waves can add volume and bring out the cheekbones which make oval faces look slightly more rounded, rather than adding length to it.”

Hairstyles For a Round Face

A short sharp hair cut like the pixie is a perfect style for a round face. Their hair style shows angles and adds definition.
Alternatively, if a pixie is a little extreme for you, Lee suggests the following: “Long layers that start below the chin are great for round faces. They need to be angled outwards rather than inwards though as this will help to open up the face and make it look longer.”

Hairstyles For a Square Face

For square faces, it’s all about finding a style that will soften the edges. Embrace round, flattering cuts and opt for a classy fringe look which pulls your features together giving a more defined roundness.

Hairstyles For an Oblong Face

Almost every lady desires to have the oblong face shape because of its graceful bone structure. This face shape is considered the most regal of all.  Its features include- A strong jaw, elongated forehead, and broad cheekbones with a much narrower width than height.

A soft wavy hairstyle with big bangs will really suit this our face shape. The bangs help to shorten the overall length of the face while the layers help add body and bounce creating needed width. This shape will work in straight or curly textures.

Hairstyles For a Heart Face

Some heart faces can be long or rounded.  For your hairstyles, ensure you avoid the fringes/bangs because the tend to give more volume and height to your face. Wear weaves with the centre part and curls in the same shape. They make your face appear soft.

Hairstyles For a Triangular/Pear Face

With this face shape, When you wear your hair pulled back into a ponytail, ensure you have either a fringe, or a few wisps of hair that go past your jaw to soften your jawline. A centre part with long straight but layered hair can work well to reduce your jaw lines.

Hairstyles For  a Diamond Face

The most unique of all face shapes. You need a hairstyle that will balance out your narrow chin, minimize the wide cheek bones and shorten your overall face length. What your diamond face needs is proportion and weaves with bangs do just that. Apart by the side of your weaves will soften the edges and angles of your face.
