Hey Ladies! You know how we love to rock our hair edges especially when you so desire to flaunt your very beautiful hair… Now, Imagine that long black hair with damaged, thinning, balding edges, that is absolutely the worst!

This section of your hair can’t be missed and there is little you can do to hide it. So it’s best that you catch things in time before it gets out of hand. If you have noticed that your edges are starting to thin out here are some tips for getting things back on track:

Avoid Really Tight Braids That Pull Your Edges

When worn too frequently braids are known to thin out edges and in the worst case scenario they can cause traction alopecia.

Braids do have the advantage of protecting your hair from over manipulation, but when it comes to your edges sometimes the tension is just too much.

If you have just taken out a set of braid extension, give your hair plenty of breathing time. Also make sure you ask your stylist to go easy on your edges so that they are not pulled too tightly. If your edges are looking really bad you may want to lay off period.

Tight Ponytails Can Cause Edges to Thin As Well

Sometimes when we wear our ponytails we like them to be sleek and a tighter ponytail definitely achieves this. However wearing a slicked back and tight ponytail too frequently can damage your edges. Damage can be mitigated by switching up your style and not consistently pulling your hair back in this position.

Avoid Picking, Twirling, or Manipulating This Area

If you have a habit of twirling or manipulating this area, stop it! The thinning of your edges is a sign that your hair is being over manipulated and too much tension is being applied. Constantly touching this area will cause even more damage. Instead try massaging or gently rubbing oils in that area to stimulate hair growth.

Smooth Product on Rather Than Using a Brush

It is okay to use a brush every once in a while for smoothing but avoid making it a daily habit. Brushes can rip and tear at the hair and if you use it too often overtime you will notice your hair will become thinner. Instead choose products that you can smooth on with your hands and will lay your edges down nicely.

Let your hair breathe more by implementing more low manipulation styles

Give your hair a new style and some healthy variation by doing more low manipulation styles like braid outs, twist outs, and bantu knot outs.

Castor oil can help re-grow thinning edges.

Have you ever had this issue? If so, Please share in the comment section on how your edges grew back?

We ladies love to look good! we love the healthy black hair. as such, we do not waste time in keeping our hair clean. In doing this we love to shampoo and wash our hair clean to avoid the smelly hair. However there are quite a number of mistakes we make while washing our hair that we have come to see as right.

These mistakes are;

Using the Same Shampoo All Year Round

This means shampooing the hair too frequently. Ideally, we should shampoo every other day. It is also advisable to switch shampoos occasionally to prevent buildup of certain ingredients (like silicone).

Every couple of months, replace your current shampoo with another formulated for your hair type.

We can also use a clarifying shampoo once a month for a healthy long hair.

Not Completely Wetting the Hair Before Shampooing

Without enough water, shampoo doesn’t lather—and you may be inclined to compensate by using more product, thus hurting your wallet and hair. Stand under the shower spray for an extra minute before using your shampoo.

Always Applying Your Shampoo to the Same Spot on your Scalp

You might notice that the top of your scalp is dry or flaky. Try alternating your routine by starting your shampoo at the nape of your neck and distributing the lather onto your hair before moving toward the top of your head.

De-tangling Your Hair With Your Fingertips

To avoid damaging hair, massage your scalp with your fingertips rather than your fingernails or palms.

Rinsing With Hot Water

This is one very wrong thing to do to your hair. This has damaged the scalp of a number of women. Piping hot water dries your scalp and hair. Use lukewarm instead, this helps to preserve your hair colour.

There you have it, the certain things we have always felt we do right without knowing the damage caused to our hair. Let’s begin to do things right in order to achieve a healthy scalp.

The braided wig is by far one of the most trending hairstyle of 2017. Wigs have become every lady’s rescue especially for immediate needs but the question is, how often do you want to always run to your wigs and yet finding them ever ready? Always you may say but the fact is that, your maintenance and treatment of these beauty magics determines how well they will serve you.

This has led to the discussion on measures on how to keep the trending braided wig shinning and tidy.

Braided wigs can be more difficult to maintain than other wigs due to the risk of ruining the braids. This trending wig is made out of human or synthetic hair and getting familiar with this fact, determine what method and how well to care for it: and what special attention you give to the edges. So it doesn’t get ruined.

Both types require shampoos and conditioners made for wigs, but that made for human hair are similar to those that people use on their natural locks.

Below are easy tips to maintaining your braided wigs.

Wash Your Wig

It is important to know that all braided wigs should be washed by hand. It is vital that you always wash your braided wig in cool water to help preserve it and to keep the braid from falling apart. Most braided wigs can stand to be washed after every 10 to 15 times, depending on how often you wear them.

Dry Your Wig

This next step can be a lengthy process, especially if the braids are left intact while on the stand. It is best to let your wig dry overnight and have a backup version on hand if you need to wear one right away. Blow drying a human hair wig is acceptable unlike the synthetic, because it can cause the braids to frizz.

Condition/ Cream Your Wig

Depending on the kind of braids, having your conditioner and cream in place is very important. For synthetic braided wigs, spray-on your conditioner and for human hair, get a cream version. Rub the cream through and be ready to rock away!

For a long lasting braided wig, follow through on these tips and be sure that your wig will be the envy of ladies around.

Parenting can be quite tasking. Try juggling being a mum and having a full time career- this i must say is a lifetime job on its own. Working mums have their way of keeping it all together from the children’s attention to family needs etc. These women can be described as Super Mums. In the midst of all this juggles, we need to pay attention to our looks-time to look cool and trendy.

For instance, I have two boys + an 8 -5 job, I practically do not have time for complicated stuff. I need simple classy things, so I go for looks that don’t require much and that are easy to maintain. This also involves every other thing from my clothes to my hair.

Considering that most working mums do not have the time for complicated things, these hairstyles will easily give us the trendy look without creeping into our “always” busy schedule.

Braids/Crotchet Braids

Braids are one of the oldest hairstyles of all time. They can be of simple or extremely intricate design, and are great for those of us who seem to have more bad hair days than good. Braids are a great and timeless style that one can dress up or down, and are perfect for busy/working moms. Even if you have short hair, you can still partake in the braid trend! It takes away the stress of having to style your hair, comb through and the ample amount of time you spend attending to your hair. All you have to do is pay a visit to the salon, request for braids you can conveniently rock for as long as you would like. As the day go by- you oil and style however you desire. Also, the Crochet Braids is not only easy to make, it also protects your hair line and edges preventing hair breakage.

Ponytail-Buns

Buns are a busy mum’s best friend. Park your hair into a ponytail and then make a Bun. Popularly called a Doughnut. All you are required to do every morning is use an Oil spray and brush the edges to make it smooth and neat. Then you are good to go, no time wasted. Still, you get the chic look. It’s super sexy, super easy to do, requires minimal effort, it is fun, and goes with almost any look. It is less stressful and can work for any weather condition. However, you should avoid pulling your hair too tightly into a ponytail/bun to prevent hairline breakage.

Dread locks

Commonly called dreads or locs, this is also synonymous with braids as well. They are ropelike strands of hair formed by matting/braiding the hair or one can decide to lock her natural hair. This has become quite popular with most career mums as it is easy to wear considering tight and busy schedule. You need not comb, brush or spend long hours getting a presentable look. With the dreads on, all you have to do is visit your stylist to get the desired style and you can rock away!

Wigs

This is the secret behind most creative hairstyles that mums wear- Wigs! They help you achieve a beautiful natural hair style. Times when you are cradled with the house chores/kids and can not spend long hours in the salon, you need not get worried, you have your wigs to cover up whenever you need to step out. You can always fall on your wigs for the beautiful hairstyles/classy look , then take it off when you are in the comfort and privacy of your home.

Corn rows

Cornrows are often formed in simple, straight lines in which the hair is braided very close to the scalp. As mothers, the responsibility of managing the home, kids and a career is quite tasking leaving little or no room for that quality girl time you desire to spend on your hair. Cornrows are not only easy to make, they also give a chic professional look. It is also quick and effortless to make and wear: you do not need to brush, comb, style every morning. Simply oil your hair, wear your make up and you are good to go.

Several hair types exists; their growth also differs. Some grow within a short while others may require tricks and treats to speed up their growth. Depends on the length you would love for your hair and how much you can wait to achieve this, you can consider these few tips on how to have a healthy hair-

Always start with your scalp

It’s no longer secret that hair grows stronger when the scalp is healthy, such health can be achieved through daily scalp massages, at least 5 minutes a day.

Sleeping on silk

Smooth surfaces reduce nighttime friction, which means less breakage in the morning. It is best to switch from cotton pillow cases to silk when next you’re doing a bedroom makeover.

Follow the rule of one

Never blow-dry AND heat-style on the same day. Air dried hair would be the best hairstyle to keep. To avoid damage and dryness do one or the other, make sure you follow the rule of one procedure per day to ensure a healthy hair.

Brush better

A natural boar brush is worth the investment. Brushing stimulates blood flow to your scalp, which brings needed nutrients to your hair follicles, thereby creating healthier and stronger strands of hair. Always brush gently and carefully, not to rip out your hair.

Rinse with vinegar

There’s not so much evidence that rinsing hair with cold water does more good than warm water. However, cold water plus apple cider vinegar will help to close the cuticle layer of the hair, leaving it shinier.

Avoid Extensions

When growth is your goal, extensions should be permitted only for special occasions and a limited time, That extra weight can rip your hair out from the root.

Give your hair a rest. Depending on your hair type, keep washing and styling to a minimum for the best texture, quicker growth and healthy hair.
