Over the years, there have been the fight for gender equality globally, with active fighters of this cause present in the Nigerian political system.

Nigeria has recorded some success in this campaign and have succeeded in having women hold certain political offices that have not been held by women previously.

To celebrate the phenomenal strength of the Nigerian woman, we will be highlighting few women that have made names for themselves in the Nigerian political world:

Ngozi Okonjo Iweala

The delta state born economist is the first female minister of finance in Nigeria. Ths woman served two terms under the previous administrations. She was indeed a good influence on the Nigerian economy as during her first term under President Obasanjo’s Administration.

She headed negotiations with the Paris Club of Creditors that led to the wiping out of US$30 billion of Nigeria’s debt, including the outright cancellation of US$18 billion.

Ngozi Okonjo Iweala is a supporter of the girl child as she empowered Nigeria’s women and youth with the Growing Girls and Women in Nigeria Programme (GWIN) and the Youth Enterprise with Innovation programme (YouWIN) a programme to support entrepreneurs and created thousands of jobs in the country. She currently holds political offices outside the country.

Dora Akunyili

The minister for information and communication from 2008 to 2010 was also the director general for National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control of Nigeria. As the director general on NAFDAC she encouraged honesty and excellence in the sector as the circulation on fake drugs was limited as a result saving lives.

As the minister of Information and Communication she anchored the Re-branding Nigeria Project. She died of cancer June 7th 2014. It is recorded that she had the highest number of awards received.

Obiageli Ezekwesili

The popularly known Nigerian accountant served under the President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration as Federal Minister of Solid Minerals and Federal Minister of Education.

She then went ahead to serve as the vice president of the World Bank’s Africa division from May 2007 to May 2012. Oby Ezekwesili also championed the Bring Back Our Girls Campaign in a bid to find the missing girls from April 2014.

Abike Dabiri

Abike Kafayat Oluwatoyin Dabiri-Erewa started her career in journalism and had worked fifteen years in the National Television Authority (NTA) before she retired and ventured into politics. She is a former member of the Nigeria Federal House of Representatives representing Ikorodu Constituency in Lagos State, the Chairman of the House Committee on Media & Publicity, the former Chair of the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs.

In 2015 She was appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora.

Florence Ita Giwa

Ita-Giwa joined politics and emerged as National Republican Convention (NRC) chairman for Delta State. Thereafter, she was elected a member of the federal House of Representatives. She became involved in Bakassi affairs, and earned the nickname “Mama Bakassi”.

Ita-Giwa was elected Senator for the Cross River South constituency in April 1999 and was appointed to committees on Rules and Procedures, Environment, Foreign Affairs, Women, Niger Delta and Drug & Narcotics.

These women and many others have been able to carve a niche for themselves in the Nigerian political system giving a room for the younger women to aspire for such positions in the future.

The fashion world keeps evolving and expressing every day and most of us like to follow the trend. We like to go with the latest and newest fashion item in town and in the cause of this we make mistakes that may mar our fashion etiquette rather than make us look good. So, my ladies, to avoid being the next victim of the fashion police.

Below are some rules to guide you in the fashion world:

Your Hairdo Should Complement You

Your hairdo adds a finishing touch to your look, to ensure it suits you very well. Do not just go for the trending hairstyles, be sure it looks good on you. Which is why it is essential you are not too loud with your hairdo. Avoid looking like a clown with your hairstyle.

Go With Clothes That Suit Your Body Shape

Picking a dress bigger or smaller than you are will make you look unattractive. While picking a dress, don’t just look at the beauty of the dress, try it on and be sure it fits perfectly. When you wear what suits you, you come out looking stunning, unlike when your dress makes you look like you borrowed them.

Avoid Dressing Too Young or Too Old

It is good to look young and beautiful always but wearing a dress that is meant for the younger generation will only make you look like a child as well as wearing what is meant for the older generation too. Always balance your dressing, embrace your age and rock the style for your generation.

Avoid Heavy Make Up

With the rate at which ladies learn to make up today and the fast-rising number of professional and unprofessional makeup artist, we are likely to see series of clowning on the road. No matter how good you are eager to look, do not overdo the face-lift. Makeup should be at the slightest minimum to avoid looking like a mannequin.

Pay Attention to Your Colour Combination

Sometimes we just wear some apparels because they will look good together forgetting to check if the colors can go together. Before you mix color, ensure they look good together so you do not come out looking funny. If you are good with combining colors, you are 30% good in dressing. The color combination also includes your shoes, bags, and accessories, so you don’t go around rioting.

Tread Lightly with the Accessories

If you do not want to go about looking like a costume masquerade, then you must beat down your accessories. Be moderate with your use of jewelry and it should complement your outfit.

Dress in Line With The Outing

I have seen some people wear some very lousy cloth to a job interview and some other people wear suit to a wedding. That is wrong, whatever you are wearing should suit the occasion, so you do not look odd among another guest.

Your Footwear Matter

Some of us are shoe lovers, but we should not pick the wrong size just because we like the shoe. Wearing an over-sized or an undersized shoe will make you totally uncomfortable. It will hinder you from walking heads high with them on. It shouldn’t be tight as it might hurt your feet and it should not be too big because it will slip off while walking around.

Have The Basics in Your Wardrobe

There are fashion items that do not come and go, those things should not be lacking in our wardrobe. In as much as we love to stay updated, they are must-have for everyone that wants to stay evolved in the fashion world. These fashion basics include: Jean trousers/skirt/jacket/dress, white shirt, black shirt, Belt, amongst others.

Whatever Makes You Comfortable

Fashion is not all about what is trending but mostly what makes us comfortable. While dressing up ensure that you are comfortable in and with your outfit. Avoid adjusting your dress every minute in public by wearing what you comfortable in.

There you have you it! Stick to these guidelines and you sure would be the definition of poise and grace. Please feel free to leave a comment on fashion etiquette for ladies in the comment section.

Cooking is not just about rushing into the kitchen to mix one or two things together that will be called food. To make good food we must observe a high level of cleanliness and orderliness in the kitchen. Ever wonder why some of your friends never eat in your house? It could be due to the unhygienic environment where your food is being made. A clean environment attracts people to want to eat your food.

These steps will help-

Cover your Hair

We must have heard this line several times and we just ignore because it almost does not make sense to start covering your hair in your own kitchen. But then sometimes we wonder how some strands of hair get into our food, forgetting that it is because we left our hair flying about while cooking our meal. There are lots of things in our hair, some of us even have dandruff in there and might want to scratch from time. It is advisable to get your hair covered even if all you are cooking is pasta.

Do not Talk While Cooking

The kitchen should not be an avenue for discussion especially when you are cooking. When we are talking the spit in our mouth have the tendency of circulating its potential. Which is why it being advisable not to talk over the food. If you must talk ensure all the food are properly covered.

Don’t Dip Your Hand into the Food

In as much as tasting what you are cooking is essential, do it the right way. Avoid dipping your hand inside the food to taste it, use the cooking utensils to do that. Take out the food with your spoon and then taste. The spoon should not go straight to your mouth if you will still dip it inside the food, there are other people that will be eating the food.

Don’t Wash Your Hand in the food

Some persons are of the habit of washing the spices off their hand into the food they are cooking. That particular portion of your hand will not make the food taste better, instead of washing your hand into it simply wash your hand. It is somehow irritating to see someone doing that while cooking, for a healthy cooking hygiene, avoids such.

Clean Everything You Use Immediately

The secret to a sparkling kitchen is a good clean up. Pay attention to everything you used to cook and then wash them immediately you are done. You do not have to pile up all dirty utensils to show that you just cooked. I am aware that cooking can be quite hectic but if you keep washing immediately you use them, they will not be left piled up.

Don’t Leave Your Food on the Fire to Quickly See a Movie

To the Telemundo and Zee world fans, I know we love to see the end of that movie but let us ensure that we pay attention to one thing at a time so we do not burn the food. No one enjoys eating burnt food, for your food to come out nice, pay enough attention to it.

A perfect skin is almost every woman’s dream as it tells a story of who you are. For some of us that have tried a lot of things ranging from creams, soaps to all other beauty products, stress you no more as the secret to having a good skin also lies in your diet.

We will be discussing foods that can give you that desired perfect skin below:

Red Bells Pepper

They are tasty vegetables that can be enjoyed either cooked or raw. It is a low-calorie snack that contains about thirty calories with a satisfying crunch bite. A red bell pepper contains a hundred percent (100%) of our daily vitamin c need, and we need to know the role of vitamin c in our skin. Keep slices of red bells pepper in your fridge to enjoy a crunching bite and for a flawless skin.

Dark Chocolate

Some of us love chocolates but we do not even know they are useful for our skin therapy. Dark chocolates are rich in antioxidants, fatty acids, and flavanols that promotes glowing skin. The antioxidant will help reduce roughness on our body while protecting it from sun damage. Cocoa relaxes the arteries, increasing blood circulation that in turn leads to a healthy skin.

Salmon

Salmon does the job of providing the vitamin D that is needed for the day. Vitamin D is responsible for keeping the heart bones, colon, and the brain healthy. It helps to fight colon cancer, anxiety, depression, heart disease and bone disease. Salmon is also rich in omega-3 fatty acid that helps in fighting inflammation, wrinkles, and acne. It hydrates your skin and produces strong healthy hair.

Coconut Oil

It is one of the richest sources of saturated fat with about ninety percent (90%) calories as saturated fat. It contains lauric acid, a powerful antibacterial and antiviral agent that keeps away viruses, infection, inflammation, and acne. It is an essential fatty acid and vitamin E which are perfect for keeping the body layer moist, soft and wrinkle-free.

Sweet potatoes

They are a good source of Beta-carotene that can be converted into Vitamin A in the body. This protects the skin from sun exposure, it also helps prevent sunburn, cell death and the resulting effects of dry, wrinkled skin. The sweet potatoes do not just go well with ketchup but they help in giving a nice body.

These foods and many other could be the perfect solution you have been seeking for a flawless look.

The increasing rate of abduction, butchery and armed robbery in the country has become quite alarming, gradually painting the country as unsafe for dwelling. In the past two months about 5 kidnap hideouts have been uncovered and they are mostly in areas that are overlooked for crimes like this.

Against this back drop, what we should do as inhabitants of this area is to put up some security caution. It means we have to be more careful while moving around and you can be smarter than the kidnapping agents. Below are some things that can help us become more watchful and reduce our chances of being a victim of abduction/robbery:

Open Up to Only Close Relatives

Most of us are in the habit of talking to any and everybody we find ourselves with, as a result spill out what is meant to be discreet. Information should be efficiently filtered before giving it out to anyone, especially when they are people you are just meeting. Do not be in a hurry to gist a new or an old friend you are just meeting about the happenings in your life.

Some persons have beckoned on armed robbers into their homes because they spilled too much information to the wrong person. Ensure whoever you are sharing your stories with is a trusted family member.

Avoid Display of Wealth in Social Gathering

When you are at events you do not need to show yourself as the richest person there. Be modest with how you show off your wealth in public places, so you do not invite intruders into your homes. Robbers have found their ways into some homes because they have seen the home owners display wealth lavishly at parties.

Burglars or kidnappers will not target who they are not sure have enough money for them except on special cases.

Reduce Social Media Activity

With the level of social media competition where majority compete for who has more money, these kidnap and armed robbery agents do not go far before getting information. All they do is visit people’s social media profile and they know who their next victim is.

The rate at which we post all of our lives on social media should be reduced. The whole world do not need to know how your house look, or the number of cars you own. You can post your pictures but not the one that intentionally point fingers to how wealthy you are. Posting your location and your children’s location should also be avoided.

Do Not go Out With Strangers

Few years ago, Cynthia an undergraduate met a friend on social media and later went ahead to visit him in another state, where they lodged in a hotel. The next everyone heard of her was that she had been killed by the Facebook friend. This was because she trusted a total stranger and even went ahead to be alone with him in another state.

It is normal that we meet new people daily, but when we are going to see them we should ensure that we do not meet in an alone place to avoid stories that touch.

Avoid Moving Alone Late Night

This is not limited to late night though, we should also be careful early in the morning and during the day. Most atrocities happen at odd hours of the day, some people became victims of kidnap because of the bus they boarded early in the morning or late night.

Late night harbours so many crime which is why we have to be vigilant and avoid being alone.

We should also avoid taking all of our Debit cards and ID cards with us as this is mostly the target of bus thieves and criminals.

Safety is key: we should be security conscious always.

Your colleagues either make your stay at the office interesting or the other way round. This happens because there are different kinds of people that make up a staff of an organization and all of these people have different attitude entirely.

We will be discussing seven types of colleagues in the next paragraph:

The Sleepers:

This set of people can sleep on water and you wonder if they didn’t sleep at home. They sleep at intervals even when others are working vigorously because they cannot afford to let anything get in the way of their pleasant sleep. This act gets them popular with everyone as it becomes noticeable over time.

The Talkatives:

These folks sometimes give you the vibe you need on the job. Although they overdo it at times because they hardly know when to stop. Their colleagues keeps hoping they don’t talk and put others in trouble because their talkativeness has levels. All noises erupt from their end.

The Geeks:

The overly serious ones. They are mostly glued to their systems and when they are not working, they are probably learning something new. They don’t care about the new trends in town, they just want to work and go back to their houses. Most times they leave the office later than everyone.

The Snitches:

Snitches have just one ambition, ‘getting in the good books of their bosses’. This they strive to achieve irrespective of who being is dragged down. They are the suppliers of information to their bosses, leaving everyone in awe of how the boss got wind of the situation that happened in their absence.

The Foodies:

When you see the way they hurry to eat early in the morning, you wonder if they are pregnant but they are not pregnant they just love to eat. Most of the time they are the slim ones yet they eat at intervals from food to snacks.

The Beggars:

Ever had a colleague that is interested in everything you are holding? It can really get irritating at times but you can’t help the situation. They beg everyone for food or anything they see. These set of people most of the time keep their own belongings and are mostly in monopoly of their stuffs.

The Clueless:

Imagine having a colleague that does not really know their role at the office. Not because they were not informed about their job description but they have chosen to be ignorant and most times they beg other colleague to help out with their responsibilities. They can even go as far as paying whoever is willing to help with their roles.

The Gossips:

Everybody’s gist is on their table. For latest information about your colleagues you can always bank on them. Trust them to give you all the updated information, they are mostly in groups of twos or more.

The Slayers:

You definitely have colleagues that are overly fashion conscious, they are always slaying. These ones go to the rest room for touch ups at intervals and are always taking selfies.

The Temperamental:

They are the constant fighters in the office, they cannot handle nonsense from anyone so they flare up at the slightest provocation.

Which of them are you? identify yourself and some of your colleagues and have a good laugh.
